What is our investment approach?
Core/Satellite is a two-step approach for investors seeking a stable, long-term strategy to capture the performance of financial markets, but who are also willing to take further steps to enhance the performance of their portfolios.
The core strategy
The core of your investment will consist of a strategic asset allocation - a stable set of carefully-selected well-diversified investments - around which satellite investments can seek out performance. A strong core captures a range of opportunities from a selection of asset classes.
Given the importance of a balanced asset allocation in generating performance, the core component of your portfolio should be managed as a whole solution rather than as a collection of individual investments. Moreover, it should be carefully monitored in order to respond to changes in the financial markets as they occur and to remain consistent with your global level of risk tolerance.
The satellite strategy
While the role of the core component is to capture market performance over the long term, the satellite component is tactical in nature. This complementary module allows you to add alpha to your portfolio by taking advantage of opportunities as they arise.
Satellite investments achieve this by increasing the expected return of your portfolio without having to switch out of core long term holdings.
The range of financial instruments that can be used as satellite investments is virtually unlimited, but depends on your core holdings as well as on the market context. Examples of satellite investments include mutual funds, structured products, commodities and real estate, among others. Our specialists will help you make optimal financial decisions.
