HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA is proud to be the principal sponsor of the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad since 2003.

This unique and prestigious musical event was founded in 1957 by the famous violinist of Russian origin, Lord Menuhin, as a platform to promote young talented musicians of all religions and nationalities. The festival runs from mid-July to September every year and it has become a must for music lovers from all over the world.

Gstaad, the beautiful mountain resort frequented by the rich and famous, with its breathtaking scenery and lovely chalets in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, was Lord Menuhin's choice. He lived there for many years until he died in 1999.

The 2009 edition of the Menuhin Festival Gstaad is to follow the theme of “Perfection”. Christoph Müller, the Festival’s artistic director, also looks forward to welcoming new artists in residence: the Capuçon brothers and pianist Hélène Grimaud.

Other highlights include:

  • The return of Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra for two concerts
  • A “Notte Italiana” directed by conductor Philippe Bach
  • A performance of Haydn’s “Creation” in the version of its premiere in London, as shaped by Paul McCreesh in co-production with the BBC Proms

The Menuhin Festival will take place from 17 July to 5 September 2009.
